Hi all, newbie here from the golden state. my friend and I are building a valved reflux still from plans he found off the internet. the plans he got describe the construction of an internal, and a valved reflux still using either a stainless milk jug or a beer keg. i've already gotten some good advice on a better design for the condensor, and would welcome more if anyone has knowledge of this design. the main purpose of the distillate will be for whiskey, and maybe rum for the ladies. although i am curious as to the burn of high proof ethanol compared to methanol because one of my hobbies is a crew chief for a methanol burning race car. really no questions for now, i'll do research until i cant find an answer.. thanks for lookin

Welcome aboard. If you want whiskey and rum out of your still, ya may want to look into a simple pot still, the valved reflux you are wanting to build is gonna strip out all your flavor.

Thanks guys, am i right in my thinking that although probably not as efficient, I can run the offset head still in pot mode as well as reflux by removing the packing? I like the versatility of being able to make neutral spirits as well as flavored. thx again.

Welcome! Ethanol is similiar in many ways to methanol in engines, less corrosive, and less flow required being a couple of differences. We have a fuel section too, and would welcome any contributions from experience or experimentation!
That's correct, an offset head can certainly be run in potstill mode, or even a potstill head made up, plenty of stillers here who will provide good pointers!
Good luck with the still build and whisky making, plenty of info here to help :)
