Iodine Container

Neighbour of mine gave me a 55 litre HDPE container that had been used for iodine.
It had been well rinsed out but it is stained inside from the iodine, Wondering if it would be safe for a fermentation container.?
I know they use iodine to purify water, But wondering if anything might leach out into a wash?
