ISO: A simple high yield recipe

Post by nantahala »

Hey guys,

I've been using turbo yeast for about 10 successful washes and my first ten runs on my pot still.

The turbo is too expensive and the carbon filtering is really annoying. So, last time I was at the brew shop I decided to just grab some regular distiller's yeast instead.

However, being so inexperienced, I'm not quite sure of what recipe to use now with the distiller's yeast OR how much yeast to use. I've read through the tried and true recipes and nothing seemed like what I'm looking for. I know I will need to add some nutrients for the distiller's yeast but I'm clueless as to what or if my brewshop even supplies them.

Also, when initially buying a hydrometer, the guy there advised me to buy the proof and traille hydrometer, so it does not read gravities. Also, I'm in the dark about what gravities even mean. So if someone has a link to some reading, send it my way.

So, I'm really looking for the cheapest recipe out there with a high yield. I don't know if such a thing exists but if anyone has any ideas, I'd be very grateful for a shove in the right direction.
