My 2" Boka

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

My 2" Boka

Post by Jughead »

This is my first attempt at my coil. Did not turn out too bad. Could have been a little tighter spaced, but has no problem keeping up with the 1500 watt element I am using. Gotta tell you I went with putting the salt in the tube before I tried winding it. Took any fear that I had out of the equation. I put a copper scrubby in the center (test scrubby with magnet first).

Made my slant plate head and after soldering on the 2" male and female fittings, thought I should have just did an easy flange on the two pieces which would make it easier to switch between pot and reflux. Right now I am using the full column with no packing and ran off my first all bran run (after cleaning run). It was a four gallon test run, only ran through once. How much difference in tast/smoothness does it make to do when doing a single run at 3-4 drops/sec vs. a stripping then spirit run? On this one, I just did a single slow run.

Got the whole thing connected to a keg with a 1500 watt heater inside.

Got about 600ml on oak right now. I would like to say I will see how it is in a few weeks, but who am I kidding! I give it a few days as it smells better every day when I check it!
