new guy in town

Post by itchy »

hey everyone,,, just wanted to intro myself,, several years back i was running a small stovetop cm mounted on a 4 gl pressure cooker,,its the one with the liberg condensing lines that run thru the column and i used copper scrubbing pads for packing, (the one every one hates on here) but it seemed to work fine for me,,, i made quite a few runs with her,, about two weeks ago i found this site and at first i was overwhelmed,, all these abbreviations,, the total science you all make it into,,, back then i thought i knew it all,,, now i realize i didn't know anything about distilling. my old still was a copper tower with a aluminum pot,, i didnt know back then that aluminum was a bad choice and should not be used...thank god no one got sick or poisoned by it. i spent the last two weeks reading,, re reading and taking notes on this forum,, learned more in that time then my whole life as a distiller. some of you guys are truly amazing with what you build and how in depth you take this hobby.. so for now i guess your stuck with me cause i wanta soak up some of this knowledge.. i even stated to build a new still today,, a vm.. i'll get to that in another post when i figure out how to put up pics here.. (not very computer friendly)... itchy

Welcome to the forum, I think I know the design still you are referring too! What abv did you pull from her, I am guessing around 86-87% maybe as high as 90.

thanks guys... im sure its gonna be a good ride ..... im thinking the abv was about 87%.. i gotta check it as i actually still have almost 2 gallons in storage,, probably 5 years old now,, i'll use one when i do a conditioning run after i do the vinegar run on the new still.. at least i knew enough back then to store it in glass jugs,,lol,, my brother works in a weld shop for a meat precessing plant and hes working on a stainless steel boiler for me,, im hoping hes got enough scrap metal to build one. i still got a lot of equipment to acquire so i probably wont be online for a couple weeks yet..
