2" or 3" for keg still?

Post by drichards18 »

I have an opportunity to get 2" or 3" SS pipe for my stack and I was wondering what you guys think I should go with?

I'm building a SS keg with a 240V/5500W element. I've been pricing out copper and SS and I know that copper is better, it's just so damn expensive. I've read that if you use copper scrubbers in the stack that can offset the fact of having a SS stack. My concerns are that the 3" SS fittings would be too expensive, but passing up the opportunity to get 3" this cheap is making me second guess... I keep thinking of the volume difference.

Here are the prices that I was quoted:

2" Sch5 (wall .065) - 20' for $50
3" Sch10 (wall .125) - 20' for $75

If my calculations are correct that makes the 2" = $1.67/lb and the 3" = $0.87/lb. (if those are wrong, let me know)
