Filtering after ageing on wood

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

Filtering after ageing on wood

Post by Odin »

Mentors,

So I made me some UJSSM and after that some SF. I put both on JD Oaking Chips for a few weeks. After that I filtered twice through coffee filters. Gave me a nice filtered sugar head (ehm ... I only starte using that phrase, since I started up my first all grainer; sorry!) whiskey. But ... and here it comes ... after about a week of rest in the bottle, I notice some cloudiness in the drink. So I filter again, this time through 2 coffee filters. The result seems clear to me (pun intended). Chrystal clear. But after another week of rest ... cloudiness again. Something swirling in my bottle. I think is has to do with the wooding. So I filter again, this time thru 3 coffee filters. Now eventhough the result looks good & tastes better, who knows what it will look like in a week or so? And ... aren't there some better ways to filter out oak after ageing?

Hope you guys can help.

Odin.
