It doesn't matter what yer distilling, or what type of still you are using... the only difference between summer stilling and winter stilling is your personal comfort, and how much heat you have to use.

Insulation (for you and yer still) makes winter stilling easy and nice.

With a reflux still cold wind will make a difference if not properly insulated but I guess wind in general can effect the reflux, I also found that I recycle my water in a garbage can and the water stays cooler longer in the winter.

I've been trying to figure this one out. I would think that the cold on an un-insulated column would assist with the reflux ? is the insulation just to keep things even without outside influence ?

It the wind that has the biggest influence as it has a tendency to disturb the reflux as it comes and goes which doesn't allow for a even reflux.

As equilibrium is needed for a consistent product.

Distilling I think is easier in winter. Easier to cooler the condenser. Fermenting, however is a bitch.
