Copper packing turns unusual color

Post by Tugla »

I soaked my copper packing in vinegar with a little kosher sea salt for about half an hour, then rinsed thoroughly, and now I'm seeing little patches that look kind of Silver. It is legitimate packing designed for our hobby (from Brewhaus) so I know its not copper plated over some other metal. I've done 12 runs through my still, but only recently started experimenting with the vinegar/salt soak for the packing. Its a Stainless steel still & I take everything apart after each run and wash it. The packing smells nice and clean, but I am wondering why I would be seeing a silvery/blue tinge in places, but more importantly, is it still safe to use?...

BIG thanks to all the posters that have contributed to my education here
