Cutting with sugar water??

Post by Slowninja »

Ive run a few searches but appearantly "cutting" and "sugar" provide 10,000 something results... lol

Has anyone used sugar water to cut their likker? I have a run of UJSM and after cutting to 40% it's still just not as smooth as i'd like. I just wonder if using sugar water may help retain the corn flavor while making it a bit more drinkable (straight).

Try letting it age for a few weeks. If you still arent impressed, you can try adding a little bit of glycerine. I cant say whether sugar water would help or not becuase I have never tried it before.

"A bit of sugar takes the heat of alcohol" is sort of a proverb among old Dutch shiners. Never tried it. Don't like sugar in my likker. Sometimes a good extra filtering (after aging on wood) can make quite a lot of difference. And a few days to weeks of rest don't harm either.

Yes I've done it.
Takes the bite out as Odin says.
Also some of the ladies prefer booze with a sweet tinge to it.
So for the wife I have a bottle that has sugar water added... tastes a little like a liqueur

For me though it's better to age and enjoy the oak flavours or vanilla or .....

There's a decent section on the Parent Site on Smoothing, under Aging.

Thought i'd update this thread.

I have learned one thing.. Not to use too much sugar.

I was mixing sugar in for some WPOSW the other day (i use 8lbs of sugar for 5 gallons of water) and thought it might be a good time to try cutting with the sugar water.

I can tell you, that's entirely too much sugar.. I dont' really even know what i was thinkin.

However, the ol lady actually LIKES it? Oh well, if she's good i'm good!

I'm just glad i tried it on a half jar... lol

Glucose is a good way to go. I've used it in Kahlua, it gives body, smoothness and less sweetness.

I've also used hummingbird food from wal mart, it is pretty much just red sugar water but the women love it.
