My new mini thumper pot still head....Tic Tock

Post by kenfyoozed »

Well this is something I had thought about for along time. Saved up over time to get what i needed and finally got around to putting it all together. Its basically a potstill head with a mini thumper/ single plate. Holds about 550ml of liquid. Easy to build, real easy if i built it. I have yet to run it, but should do some time this weak.

So this is Tic Tock, yes i name my stills, Tic Tock refers to Return to OZ, dont know why just seemed to fit.

This is a perfectly easy way to make a sight tower section, Plate was just a few bucks from metalliferous, 3/4" downcomer, 1.25 riser, and 2" cap. Several of these would make a great tower..........and thats to some later!

she should hold 550mls, and she doesnt leak so ill charge her before clamping the top. And cooling will be from my 58" liebig, It keeps things cool as it should. My thoughts/ or rather hopes was that it work like a mini thumper. Those need no reflux, only a precharge..... but i guess we will see.....i do love to experiment

ok got some video of the cleaning run....... sorry for the lighting, used phone to record and bad lighting in kitchen

it was only an hour, but liked what i saw......

I already had the sight tower section, im just adding more plates i can swap in and out of it.

The plates were about 5$ i think from metalliferous.com. They were 5" and had to be cut down to 4.75".

4" of 1.25" and a cap
4" of 2" and a cap
6" of 3/4" and 2 90*'s
solder/torch gas

so i would think around the 200$ mark, give or take

the largest cost is the glass section

I hope someones likes this and it spurs on more ideas.... I like to build as much as i like to still and drink
