soldering problem
I have a turkey cooker that i am using as a pot and it is aluminum. I have been trying to solder a copper pipe to it and it won't stick. I have scraped the pot up and still not result.
Re: soldering problem
you cant solder aluminum (not as such) and the acids from the wash will erode aluminum so fiend a different pot.
Re: soldering problem
If you want advise (you posted to mentors, so appear that is the case), then my advise is to not use the aluminum pot as a still boiler. Boil water in it, or use it for some other purpose.
Get a SS stockpot, or possibly a 1/4 barrel Keg. Use that as a boiler. It is rock solid, and impervious to any of the alcohols / chemicals / vapors that will be present in a distillation environment.

Re: soldering problem
you can use LA-CO Aluminum Flux for copper to aluminum for some thing like soldering the a worm to the pot...But as the others stated for a boiler s.s or copper should really be used...
here the link for the flux, available at most welding shops...http://www.ati-intl.com/alumsold.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

thinking inside the box is for squares....
