Okay, having read all the threads on various controllers and fabicration, buying and modifying, I think I have finaly decide to make the switch for several reasons.
At any rate, one thing that was not 100% clear, for adding an extra element for the initial warm up theres no need for any heating control.
Everyone says to just wire it up directly, then unplug/switch off.
My question is, they mean that litteraly to wire it directly correct? like stick a cord with a plug end onto the element and call it good to go? i plan to run off of 110/120volt, and was thinking 2 1500watt elements for warm up.
This enables me to run inside in the winter time, and also off a generator while camping. (we often go camping for a mnth or two in summers.)
now from all the calculations even running direct like that it wont cause problems, and the household breaker will suffice. Im also wondering if it may be better to just use a pair of bigger 220/240 volt elements, and if I understand correctly, they will just run at about 1/2 power off of 110/120 power correct?

Re: Regarding direct wiring for heat up element.
Yes, you can wire one 1500w element up with a cord directly to an outlet. (I would have it on a 20A circuit). Then wire the other through a 120v controller. (modified router controller, or something of the likes). Plugged into a different 20A circuit. When the wash comes to boil, disconnect the uncontrolled element, and run off the controller from there on out.

Thanks MK, thats exactly what i thought everyone was sayin, just wanted to be sure..
Just spent a few hours with the calculators and became very familiar with em, and think i have a pretty clear and solid idea of what i need for sizes and power inputs etc etc.
looks like I'll be assembling a new unit this spring
i find I need a setup aproximately twice the size I have now in order to keep up with myself..
(Doing a run every 2nd to 3rd weekend and only having about a "26" worth off keep-able/drinkable stuff is getting to be anoying, along with a nearly 4-5hr runtime for so little.. lol)
