Rum Wash Fermentation

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

Rum Wash Fermentation

Post by Grayp »

I am doing my 1st real 5 gallon Rum wash that was made from:

8 lbs Dark Brown Sugar
2 - 12oz bottles of unsulphered molasses
3 pakets of Lavlin EC-1118 Yeast
3 multi Vitamans
5 gallons of water

The wash has been fermenting at 75-77 deg F for 19 days.
The air lock is slowing down somewhat with smaller bubbles so I checked the wash

The wash was sweet tasting and had a SG of 1.04

Do I need to add another packet of EC-1118 and give it more time to get below a SG 1?

molasses often will not ferment to 1.00. When you taste it, is there any sweetness at all left? There are unfermentable sugars (long sugars), and other solids in there.
