I've got a lot of guns but my most recent favorites are my 17 HMR, that will be shotin digger squrils in a couple of weeks, and my Ruger 22-250 varmint model, with the bull barrel, a whisper trigger and 6-18 BDC scope, 4000 fps...........factory ammo, haven't checked the hand loads yet.

Well as other ppl mentioned on here there government over here chose to thieve any decent firearms off all the registered law abiding citizens in there foolish effort to eliminate crime , leaving the criminals the only ones with decent guns . big surprise crime involving firearms has increased by over 400% and climbing , gee wonder why that is . anyway after they got through with me I was left with a 1902 lee enfeild 303 a piece of crap Vohrer 22 and a 1890s Viking 12 ga double barrel side hammer . Since then I've got a 22 lever action and a 243 Tikka love these but nothing like all the ones I lost next in the shopping trolley will be a lever action 12 ga PS Ok better fess up do love the old side hammer , just got to be a bit careful what shot I use

Between myself and my father, we've got a pretty wide assortment Only guns I have out here with me are my 12ga, a .22 tack driver, walther p22, and a .35 (on of my grandfathers guns).

Lookin' to buy a .308 for mulies and elk, either a Tikka T3 or Rem 700 (haven't decided which variety of either)... anyone have any experience with the tactical/varmit types in the 700 series? My dad has a T3 in 270WSM and I like the look and feel of it... I like .308 for ammo choice, price, and availability, and I like to do some target shooting... need to get into reloading... ugh more hobbies...

And dont start talking givin me shit about .308 not being enough for elk Plenty have gone down with .270s and .308s over the years I may be a little cocky about my shootin skills but I dont need 5 shots to kill an animal, and i don't need a .50BMG either

Ifn I could only have one weapon, it'd be a Remington 870 12 gauge pump. Home defence(everyone knows the unmistakable sound of the pump), slug followed by buck shot. Its good fer hunting anything round here out to about 80yards. You can kill anything from squirrel up to deer size, I've not killed any but I'm sure itd kill our black bear in fairly close quarters. I have skinned several wild hogs with buckshot healed over in their shields though, thems some damn tough critters.
My second choice is a ruger 10-22. Cheep to shoot. Can carry plenty of rounds. And effective enough to kill deer out to about 80yards with a well placed shot. (Though not legal here) ammo is also interchangable with ruger mark1,2,&3s damn fine handguns and fun to shoot. Ammo interchaingability could be kinda important.
As fer a high powered rifle uncle Jess....its hard to beat a 30-06...ya can reach way out there4-500 yards with a good scope no problem... tha 06 has been used as a sniper round. One thing to consider is the availability of the rounds. I think the 06 will always be with us unlike many of the others that have come and gone.
Which brings me to the 223. Its a good round fer taking out up to deer sized critters. Fairly flat shootin fer about 300the yards. Killed hogs withem close range. And with our military using them, I predict the round will always be with us. I'm sure the good ol USA did allot of research on the most efficient round to be able to carry large numbers of (remember supremacy through superior fire power). Its a good round, wish someone would come up with a decent sidearm in 223, then we'd be in business.
As fer a decent round/weapon that is cheap....ever heerd of a mosen nagant? Folks call em Russian sniper rifles but they were actually made every were up to and through WWII. Remington even made em. Ballistics comparable to 30-06 but a hell of a lot cheaper to purchase and shoot. Cool weapons,... come with shoulder strap, bayonet that doubles as a screwdriver, adjustable firing pin that is gushed with a tool that comes with it. Very cool all fer about $125 factory refurbished....

Yea but single shot.... yea I know,... really only need one. But my days of being sent out with one 22 shell and expected to come back with 2 squirrels are long gone.... A 223 would be too long of a round for a grip clip, a clip forward of the trigger guard would be needed. Damn wouldn't it be loud!!!

Which 6.5 Wildcat? I think the 6.5 caliber is the best bullet out there regardless of cartridge because of it great SD and BC. I shot all my deer this year with a 6.5 x 55 I built last summer on a Mauser 98 action. See picture below. All one shot kills. I shoot and reload everything from 17 Ackley Bee to 375 H & H. My favorites are the more "classic" deer calibers; 257 Roberts, 250 - 3000 (250 Savage), 270, 275 Rigby (7 x 57 I stamped it 275 Rigby just to piss off my German gun nut Brother) 6.5 x 57 and 30-06. I personally think the 30-6- is "overgunned" for our small southern whitetail. I stopped shooting bucks several ago, only shoot does and have been going smaller. I'm killed several does with a 218 Bee, but my go-to deer rifle is the 250-3000 I built on a 96 Maser action. Really I just like them all.

The crows in Al must be a hell of a lot tougher than your crows in Ohio. A .177 9 gr pellet traveling 1300 ish fps hits at 28 ft/lbs at 135 yds. Down here we don't usually shoot them with a 22 LR at that yardage and the 22 hits at around 130 ft/lb. A crow is tough and for one shot humane kills we want more than that. Down here your hard put to get that close unless your calling them in and that is shotgunning shooting then. Our average crow rifle shot down here is +250 yds. I use a 20 Var Targ that delivers 500 ish ft/lbs at 300 yards.

It a sure bet mate and ya can add a few other pricks to that ultra exclusive list too but if I was to stroll in and say dealers live straight across from my kids and 2 more up each end of the street how about a handgun for protection I know just what'd happen. The problem is 99% of households are without a gun and the crooks know this. mine ain't one of em though . Step sons knocked a few of em junkies up and down the street , they see us walking in and out of the house with guns and butchering tools ect so the ex is still the only house in the street no peanuts tried to rob , reckon they decided those croweatin hillbillies are best left alone ,Tell me guns aren't a deterrent

Part of my team in Afghanistan were Aussies and Brits, and I just thank god I live in a country where I can still own my gun collection and even defend myself against the crooks. Some of the stories they were talking about were crazy. Guns are most certainly a deterrent. I just find it so hard to believe that the people of Austrailia allowed so much government control. The guys I know are outdoors, freedom loving dudes.

Very nice rifles indeed.

I have a 6.5 BRM from E. Arthur Brown, model M97-D. He developed the cartridge and I handload it with 140 grain 6.5 bullets which run about 2400 fps. Basically the same as a Swedish Mauser but it's based on necked up .30-.30 brass. Just love the accuracy and punch of the 6.5x55. Not that widely used at the moment which surprises me. Hard to find something with a better ballistic coefficient.

I think my next rifle might be 17 HMR. It looks fun and after reading Ackley it appears that the shock delivered by 4,000+ fps shells is quite impressive and deadly.

I was taught to shoot at early age and was squirrel hunting by myself at 9 or so.At 56 I'm still hunt with that same 22 Taught both my girls to shoot by time they were 10.Both tried shooting small game but decided hunting wasn't as fun as target shooting.But was a good lesson both learned firsthand that guns can kill.

I got a BB gun at 5 and my dad taught me proper gun safety from day 1... at 8 I guess he figured I was responsible enough and he got me a .22 and the squirrel and rabbit slaying began

Fortunately Our founding Fathers knew that a man being able to defend himself was the biggest deterrent to a dictatorial government!

Ok guys lets not turn this into a political rant. Reagan passed gun control laws as governor of California and as President. No politician can be trusted from where I'm sitting, so it's not a "left/right" issue for me. I know plenty of "liberals" who have dozens of guns. In fact a few of them are downright gun nuts, and more power to them. It's a hobby for me, not an obsession, but I'm all for their right to horde as many guns as they want as long as they follow basic firearm safety.

Unlike some of the people I see on youtube... oh man.

As you all know, I do my best to keep this place clean of political arguments. Over 200 million firearms in this country, which I believe is a pretty strong deterrent to totalitarian moves by anyone in government. And for me that's what it all boils down to.

Again, this isn't the place to get political. There are plenty of other places out there for that.

I like guns and my feeling is that guns should be legal as long as they require only one person to operate. Has nothing to do with politics, I just like guns and believe they ensure a certain amount of freedom.
