Heading to Big Sky Country soon!

Post by Frosteecat »

Get to make my semi-annual pilgrimage to Montana next week. I'll be heading east to the end of Oregon, then south to Ontario, Or, then up through Idaho to just outside Butte.

I'm hoping I'm going to meet at least one of you (Coyote) on my way. He promised me a 7 course meal with linens and finger bowls and stuff...fancy!!

If any of y'all are near a major roadway on that route or even better in the Butte/Big Hole area...let's get a beer.

I will also be happy to test your likker(s) and report back to the group how great you are at this craft. Promise.

I'll be up in the NE corner of Wyoming in about two weeks, but it doesn't look like that will work out too well with your schedule. I have always Big Sky Country. I worked one summer in Silvertown, ID, I'd spend my weekend in Montana.

I'll be there until about the 8th or so...if our schedules parallel, bring your fly rod...or I'll meecha halfway or something. We even have an extra double wide right by the river.

C'mon up...I get to play Country Gentleman up there and my opinion (in city or country) is always: the more the merrier!
Wanna feel worse though? Check this out...see the house down there @ 4'oclock, with its back deck on the river? Yep.

Seriously though, you guys are a great bunch. I don't care if you're a tight ass, hippy, redneck or what...I've been on the net for a looooooong time and seen my share of forum wars, politics and dumb asses. The cool to fool ratio on HD is very good...
I'd be honored to meet most of you.
Provided you don't blow a hole in my roof... :)

Say? How that river (and dwellings) handle that water in the flood season?

Well the dam just above it probably regulates any heavy runoff years. It also has a 10' retaining wall but it CAN get pretty high sometimes... Summer it's pretty low...a lot of farmers use the water for irrigating. There are MILES of rivers in that area...Coyote has a place not too far from that picture too, oddly enough. I figure next year I'll host a bunch of y'all up there at the rate we're going!!

I don’t know how I missed your post Frosty. How long are you going for? Did you say that you are going to ride your motor cycle and have the wife drive the car? It should be smokin hot there this time of year. Can the boys swim in the river?

The plan now is the ride the Harley to my buddy's place in Ontario, Or. (it's about halfway...but a looong way) and hang a bit. I'll leave the bike at his house. Then the wonderful Mrs. Frosty will come along and pick me up. We'll go to the "cabin" for a week or so and she'll drop me off on the way back down. I will then split off and take a day or two to myself. Either head South and see SE Oregon, K Falls, Ashland etc. or maybe even North (?).
It does get really damn hot but there are safe places to swim around along the river and it is more of wading mode at this time of year...but there's some pools and such.

That sounds like a great plan. You get some road time and Mrs Frosty does not have to do all the driving. When your boys get old enough to drive, the Mrs can enjoy the ride with you.

Have fun. Stay safe! Use sunscreen!

Will do! Especially that last part. I think my ancestors
lived in ice caves or something! I usually get a tattoo from a great artist up there every time and they do not do well in the sun!! I may hit you up on the return if you're around!!

Got just 120 acres of hay left to stack and we'll be done with first cutting. Hope I beat the rain tonight.
Maybe I can get back to the man cave before wheat harvest starts in a couple of weeks.

Frostee, Are you planning to be here early or late morning on the 28th?

I'm actually heading out early the morning of the 27th. I am just going to go to Pendleton and maybe take a slight scenic detour along 395. I have a short range (200 miles) and a soft ass & bad back, so with multiple stops I figure about 3 or 4pm is when I'll hit your town. We can do phone #s in PM and I can touch base as I head that way, depending on coverage. Does that work for you?

Yeah should work, My adult son - just back from the sandbox - will get here Tuesday. Due to my neck herniation I am not going to Wyoming/Montana.
So Weds evening we are going up the river for some really big trout fishing - we'll leave about 5 or 6.

If your leaving early from PDX and down I-84 just run to Pendleton and then south on 395 to 244 east on 244 to I-84 and back west to Pendleton.

That run is about 130 to 150 miles

Sounds good. I'll push it so I don't jam you up. If it doesn't work out there's always the return trip...your time with your "boy" is waaay more important than me !

Give me a heads up for next year. I noticed you are not going through Washington, I thought a few posts back you said Washington was only good for driving through to get to Idaho? If I took your comments seriously I would have to have a come back as I remember your beer advertisements back in the late 70's with the police pulling over Californian's.

See, it's so bad I'm going out of my way to avoid it! ;) well, there's so few of us natives left there's not much point in being provincial anymore. We need to stick together, no matter what our favorite animals are!!!
I may swing up there on my return swing around the 8th or 9th...maybe you and MR can use me for ballast on one of your fancy tubs!!

Sounds good we will have to get together in the future, my parents actually lived in Sweet Home and Klamath Falls after I was grown and out of college! Saw my first albino fish at the hatchery by foster damn on highway 20.

Boy, you are ornery today frosty, Wife didn’t let you out of the freezer soon enough? Have a hot toddy and chill out dude.
Come on up. Were friendly. I promise. It will only hurt for a little while.
Yeah, we got tubs. Might even take you for a ride. Might even bring you back. Maybe. You know what they say, better to be ballast then jetsome.
