Aluminum for mash boiler

Post by AndyC »

I know there is some debate on this but I'm thinking if you can cook up multiple batches of tomato sauce which is quite acidic why would boiling the wort in one be a problem?

Also anyone have any experience with these cheaper brands?

I'm looking to save a little rub thumb middle and forefinger together for my still.

Wash

I think for a mash boiler there should be no problem as basically you dont have any alcohol yet as for using aluminum as a distillation boiler I dont think that would be a good idea......but the debate rages on as these debates frequently do.

heh

Maybe the simplest solution would be to use the milk can still boiler as the mash boiler too but I'm wondering does the mouth of the can have enough area to access the mash easily?

Yep, a milk can works just fine.

My milk can can. ;)

I have the HBS 26 gallon milk can and I use propane when I mash corn and electric when I distill. I also use it fer making beer.

Oops.... Sorry bud. I saw "boiler" and overlooked the "mash" part.

Personally, I use an aluminum BOP for mashing. The aluminum forms a layer of oxidation that protects the mash from the aluminum so as long as you don't use a scouring pad to wash it, you should be good. Although, who knows if it really is safe or not.
