g'day mate

Post by deejay »

Hi as you know they call me deejay i am from aus and am very new to posting in have been brewing for
only a short time and done about 6 runs with a 2" boka i shared with a mate now i want to go further
and this site is amazing with so much imformation it has inspired me to build something way out of the norm
but every one makes it sound so easy ,this is what i am in the middle of building a
2" boka and having a go at building a 3" plate in the style of odins now as i read further should i go to the
bubble plate instead of the perf plate "but i love the ideas and the looks of the perferated plate"any comments for or against
would be appreciated ? cheers deejay

Welcome deejay, ya get around like a few of us here!
Between bubble cap & perf plate I can't compare as I have only run a perf plate, but I will say this, as far as speed, and flavor, my perf plate has served me well.
My understanding, perf plate is cheaper to build, and is used for clean washes, bubble cap is used for washes/mashes that have the possibility of solids, could be wrong it is what I have read and understand.
I belive you wont be sorry on a perf plate, time is drastically cut down compared to your Boka, but you will gain much more flavor in the product, so it wont be " neutral"
It is what you make it

G'day deejay funny thing I had this same conversation with a still manufacturer not 2 hrs ago . he has made and ran plenty of both and his opinion is they produce the same at around the same speed the only diff is when perfs are finished the bottom plate drys when bubbles finish the sight glass fogs up but reckons ye pretty much run them the same . When asked about valves he sorta thought basically more work to build to to do the same job . That was his opinion but given I put credence to it as he mostly builds bubblers and given my skills (lack there of) I'm most definatly thinking perf for me
