Sodium Carbonate

Post by jwl »

I just made a couple of stripping runs combined the two stripping runs together That gave me 7 Liters of 85%. I then diluted it to 30%. and added 7 tsp sodium carbonate. This is where I have a question. If I understand right I was supposed to add this before diluting not after diluting. Will this work and is the amount of Sodium Carbonate correct?

Master Dunder can answer better than I... but since he's eating a cheeseburger or somethin... I always use baking soda in my final neutral run... blankit advises in his LM thread to use one tblspoon per litter of wash... personally, I use about half that, one tablespoon per gallon... Ifn I member right, he allso says somthin bout putting the baking soda in a few days before the run... well, I'm sure that he knows more than me, but maybe his nose isn't as good as mine...I , like Master Dunder, put the baking soda in right before tha run...

Just re-read yer question... I just add it to the boiler before making the final spirit run, really helps separate the sweet smelling ethyl acitate from the ethinal ... fer me, head cuts can be made at a higher proof, without dilution, its like night and day... but then again, I've got tha nose of a bear...

Thanks for the advice. I had such a hard time finding clear instructions on how to use the Sodium Carbonate as well as baking Soda. I chose to use the Sodium Carbonate because it took less time. So do I understand correct the amount of the orginal wash determines how much Sodium Carbonate or Baking Soda you add? I did a 60 liter wash that sounds like a lot to add if my instruction were correct at 1 tsp per Liter. Then there is the question of before or after dilution. Anyway any help would be appreciated.

Add to your boiler right before you make the run and according to how many liters or gallons you have in there... have a keg charged with 12 gal? I put in 12 tsp right before I mount the tower...

Thanks wacabi1 that clears things up a lot for me. As I had added 7tsp to my diluted low wines several day ago I am not too far off. Will run it and see what happens. Thanks again for your help.
