Sweetfeed ingredients and additives ?

Post by 1131morg »

Got a few Q's. Have some sweetfeed on ferment. All grain feed. Sg around 1.070. Ran good few days, slowed down then stopped. Checked it at 1.010 at moment. Put lid back on and it started back up. Slow but working. Could this be from room temp dropping at night slowing ferment and picking back up during the day as temp rises? ( I know I need to move to a more controlled room) If so, will this affect ferment, or just slow it down? Can I expect this to drop to .999 before moving on ?

With sweetfeed (though Shiners recipe dont call for it) would it be beneficial to add any yeast nutrient and maybe some acid blend or citrus additives ?

Last but not least. I can blend my own feed. If I go with just Oats, Corn, and Molasses, can anyone tell me a good percentage of each for a 6 gal. wash?

Yes the temps can cause the fluctuations you have noticed.

Nutrients couldnt hurt. Unless you used to much. But the sweetfeed would provide nutrients for the ferment.

What eve percent you feel like making.

sweet feed has most nutrients.thats the idea of sweet feed.the nutrients are "glued" on with the molasses.
but some nitrogen whould not hurt.most feed do not have nitrogen.its rather toxic to animals.
