perfect cut 3"

Post by Sloanick »

I got my 3" pipe. I only have a hack saw to cut it. factory end was not perfect... so I bought a 3"coupler and filed the dimples off slid it up to my cut line. it isn't perfect either!
meaning when my buddy welded the ferrel on it isn't totally level...
how do i get the perfect cut next time on a budget?
also I was thinking maybe getting the longer ferrel would fix the problem next time, because as it slides in the pipe it will level itself a bit, and the bead of weld will cover up the slightly imperfect cut.

*off-topyic side note*
my welder tig welded the copper to the stainless! never seen anyone do that, he was even surprised it worked! looks great other than not being level.

Grab a piece of paper out of your computer printer, wrap it around the tube making sure that the top edges align, stick it with a bit of tape then you will have a perfectly aligned end guide to cut with your hacksaw. :D :D :D :D

If your column is not level you will need to make sure it is by shimming or what ever to prevent extra channelling down the side walls.

I know! i think i'm going to hit the top of the keg on the high side to bend it back in and flatten the 3" ferrel i had welded on top... not the best welder ha ha. can't blame him though he did it in a 10' x 6' crooked shed filled with tools. good enough!
