Thinking of moving...any free states left?

Post by paramedic68whiskey »

I am considering moving to west VA as NH is becoming a little too blue for my taste. From what I have seen property and land (must have acres to prep) is cheap, and to top that off you can get free gas on some properties. My questions are how is life there? I am a fiscally conservative libertarian and want to find a place that the laws don't control your whole life, Seatbelt, helmet, gun, zoning etc I am a paramedic so work doesnt seem like it would be an issue. Its on my top spots although I am looking at LA, TX, Idaho and Montana too.

Montana is horrible, doubt you'd like it here...

Don't know much about the south, but Montana is a great place to live....down side is the property costs are outrageous if you are within 30 miles of the mountains, and both Bozeman and Missoula are getting a little more "blue" by the day.
The man bangin' on the door yelled "Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms!"....I just assumed it was more supplies.

I am not sure about a free state but at least we don't have tolls on the west coast with the exception of a few new bridges.

New Mexico has the lowest cost of living, they have state income tax very low though. Land is cheap as hell, I have property there for when I retire outside of Deming.

Being a libertarian myself I get where you are coming from. But I'm not real sure on the political vibe out there. I kinda figured it wouldn't matter much out on my little hacienda in the middle of nowhere.

A paramedic that is anti seatbelts and helmets; interesting.

If you find a "free" state, be sure and tell the rest of us where it is.

Ever thought of moving countries

New zealand (the south island)
land is cheap and plenty of possibilities for a medic

And it is legal to distill alcahol
good wages, cheap living

just some food for thought
Or theres australia, Distilling is illiegal, but by god, live out in the wop wops (middle of nowhere) and you barely get hassled, plus, because of the mines, wages are high

In America, Alaska is probably the last Wild West that people pretty much do what they want. But it's too damn cold and expensive. I use to know someone from there and they said we pretty much do what they want

think you will find that's the woop woop. wops is a slang name for italian/greeks over here. but yeah good money in mining but living costs are ridiculous, dearest power in the world and our prime minister(equal to your president) is the closest thing to Ronald McDonald (a redheaded clown). and to boot we have the best sport in the world AFL Football.

I'm in Texas for those reasons. Not free but closer than most and the cost of living/ wage equation works for me. Distilling is even legal at the State level, so your odds are much better.

Yeah heard the same thing. Plus they banned most firearms there and the one thing I would never give up are my guns. I was on a contract in Afghanistan and had a bunch of Aussies on my team. They were all very independent freedom loving guys and seemes like most of the Aussies I have met are....why they gave up their guns I don't know. I was just reading a few days back that the guy they made the croc dundee movie about was murdered by the Australian goverment a ways back for refusing to give up his weapons. I certainly don't think most Americans would take that sitting down, but then again...I see the way things are going here and for the first time...I have doubts about the direction we are headed. We need to go back to being a constituitional republic, not steering away from it.

I did some operations with some Aussies in Fallujah back in 2004... They were some fearless and awesome dudes.. Was proud to have them on my team....
I certainly do not like the direction this country is headed. Scares the shit outta me... They can have my guns when they pry them from my cold dead fingers...

You guys took some heavy casualties there bro. I got out of the Marines in 98, and tried enlisting in the Navy as a Corpsman later as I was already a paramedic. They wouldn't take me because of tattoos, so jumped ship and went to the Army as a Medic. Was glad to get out of that 03 shit... beat the snot out of my body. The sandbox sucked while military, but when I went contract it was awesome!! Great living space, no general order # 1....and actually got paid decent. When I got injured I didnt have to fight to get my benifits. Healing up as we speak from Afgan...

nobody mentioned no. Missouri, we only had 3 blue counties in the state this election, real estate isnt to bad, $2000-$3000 an acre,.

We do have a helmet law in missouir but if you choose to not where a helmet ans don't mind getting stopped on your Harley the ticket is $25, no points, and no court costs, so yeah you can buy that freedom.

And at a state level you can distill up to 200 gallons a married couple, still a federal problem tho?

And our sin taxes are some of the lowest around.

Haha, I forgot about your slack gun laws in america

IN nz, you have to have a gun licence, (you have to sit a test, learn 7 rules, pretty easy) then you can only carry A-cat guns (.22's 308's big stuff but no fully auto rifles)

for rifles you need and E-cat license (very hard to get, but hat lets you have pistols and fully auotmatic rifles), and weapon carrying is a big nono ( they have only just let the cops carry tasers, I have yet to see a cop carry a gun yet, unless it's a drug bust)

you have to have a helmet on a bike, and to be honest, from the crashes I have seen, I would'nt want tit any other way,

I didn't realise you had to jump through so many hoops, Thought ya just packed up, got a plane ticket and moved wherever you want, filled some forms out, get a temporary visa, stay for 2 years and you're a resident

I always love learning things like this

Semper Fi brother! Got my 20 years in 09... That place was a shithole to put it mildly... I thought about going private but decided against it. The family was having none of that...lol... Glad you made it back alive though. The worst I got was a broken toe. It sucked bad enough. Had a wicked rash from laying in the rubble for hours on end though. I hope you get better.

Missouri wouldn't be too bad either...

Moving out of the US can be pretty tough.... I would rather stay here. But we got some fixing to do with these goons in power....

Thats the beauty of our country....we have the means to defend against a tyranical government. Contrary to popular belief we cannot own machine guns or automatic weapons unless you have a tax stamp. Class 3 weapons are regulated pretty hard. Our rules were written into our constituition to protect us. My firearms are my babies. I own quite a few but each and every one has a purpose. I still cannot believe the Aussies gave them up. We have licenses here too...mainly for CCW. (concealed carry)

Semper Fi Brother!!! Got your 20!!! I am at 14 with a break in service and when I got injured on private contract thrown into IRR. Which means I may not get my letter if I don't come back to full duty. They have cut the budgets so much that they are getting rid of some good NCO's and anyone they can. Got some rashes myself...yup not fun. Glad you got your 20, I hope I can too and then settle into never never land.

Louisiana ain't free but its not bad. Pretty lenient on guns and liquor here and not to bad on the cost of living depending on where you live. Some of the best huntin in the country. I was raised in NE La and moved to South Louisiana in 98. Raised two kids here and we love it. You can make 100 gals of beer or wine legally per adult in the household(21 and over couple=200 gals) distilling is illegal but in 47 yrs I've never heard of anyone getting busted. Not sayin no one has its just rare. Johnny Laws not out lookin fer it anyway! Southern La seems to be more friendly people IMO and we'll use any excuse to throw a party! We do have helmet laws but Texas ain't far as the crow flies.

as soon as you associate with others your not going to be "free"..
I'm not saying to be anti social just be independent.the more
you "take"/expect from society the more is expected of you and they will
expect you to "conform" to there "standards" .you cant have it both ways.
their is sights on the net about this. search for "living fugal" or "living cheep"
most places that are "cheep" to live in has a reason , like little or no work,
or low wages.no one there has much, and no/little services..then you sort of "fall threw the cracks" and then no one pays attention to you.much like many say on here "dont sale dont tell"
the more you keep to yourself the more "free" you will be and the more you will git away with.
if you want that new flashy car, that big house , the big pay, then your back into the rat race.
