A little Guidance needed from the Gurus

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

A little Guidance needed from the Gurus

Post by scrap »

I'm currently fermenting my first wash. I recieved a few turbo yeast packets for free so I figured try the freebie first and if it all goes to hell, chalk it up as a learning experience.

I spit the pack in half and it's fermenting in two 3.5gal buckets. This has helped to keep the temp around 21C the entire time. The last day or so I have noticed the airlock slowing down and I want to check the SG. I have a mash hydrometer.

I just want to know if it is ok to pull the lid off this thing. I have read about spoiled washes due to oxygen so I'm a little wary. I have seen some wash instuctions on the site calling for stirring the wash and things like that. Whats the benifit to this? I have just let mine sit and do its thing for about 6 days now. Just curious where to go from here. Sparkloid is in the mail on its way and I should be getting a 6 gal glass carboy in the next few days as well
