My New Bokakob Condenser is on the way!!!

Post by bigA »

Looks like my still is going to get done with the addition of one of Bokakobs condensers with the top ellipital plate soldered to the coil.

Now all I have to do is decide on the height of the column, the number and size of the heating elements, and find a good place to install the thermometer(and a method).

For the boiler heat control, I would just like to use two elements...One for heat up and the other for the main run. I've read that <1000 watt is ok for running a 2" packed column without other controls. I can use 220 or 110 but the lenght of the heater needs to be less than 10".

So, What would you guys suggest for heating elements?

I also would like to have some opinions on the height of the column. When I was thinking about a valved reflux off-set head i was planning on 36-40" of packed column. Alex told me his last ellipital plate still had a packed height of 30" and produced 96%.

So, if I go bigger than that can/could I expect greater volume(with more heat) or wouldn't matter.

Ok, my last stupid-newbie question of the night is how and where do i place the thermometer? I was thinking it should be under the distillate plate, but how would I go about it?

BTW, I think I can return about $70 USD worth of fittings going to this design :D . I can make a lot of wash for $70!

thanks for the help,
BigA
