Bottling Techniques

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

Bottling Techniques

Post by Bearcat »

Hey Everybody,

I have a question on bottling. I have single malt about ready to bottle. I read that you don't want plastic touching your spirit at anypoint but was thinking how am I going to bottle going under this premise. Do I pull the bung and dump the barrel into one a my SS beer pots. The pot has a valve on the bottom with a ball valve. Find a find a copper / stainless compression fitting and small piece of tubing and flare it. Then into a coffee filtered funnel then the bottle?

Another stiller I know kinda scoffs at the idea of plastic being a no-no in such short contact... but I don't want to potentially add an off flavor to my 9 gallons of single malt that has been aging for 9 months now. Thought that it might be a good "first" topic for beginners like myself.

I have been told 3/8" soft copper to siphon as well (thanks Tater).

Just looking for options , concerns, discussion.

Thanks.
