Newbie from Illinois

Post by IlliniDistiller »

Howdy all! No still yet, doing my reading/research. So far am looking at electric fired pot still. Interested in rum and other "flavored" spirits. Will do neutral at some point. Was looking at PID controllers, but have recently learned I can't really control the temp of my wash in the still, so seems a bit pointless.

Heater Parts list:

http://www.amazon.com/Mighty-MM710-Cont ... =500+k+pot

http://www.amazon.com/Camco-02963-Heate ... ement+ulwd

http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Voltage-V ... o+wire+red

Also assorted wires, knobs connectors an such.

Thinking of going with a LARGE (as in 15-20 gallon stainless steel "stock" pot. Seems as it would be easier to clean than a semi closed keg.

Is there a condenser design that I could easily switch back and forth between pot still mode and reflux mode? Want to build it myself. I'm rather handy, there's little I feel that I couldn't do. I've played with metal the better part of my life, and soldered PLENTY of copper.

Looking mostly to run rum and some form of 'shine. Got good sources for my raw materials.

Killer site, and thanks y'all!!

welcome if you use a keg and a triclamp you could build 2 stills and just switch between them. or you can use a triclamp on your set up and switch
