corn in new zealand
hey all
im going to do a ujssm brew for my next. i am finding it hard to locate corn to use for it. i found plenty of popcorn (would work i think), but i reckon non popcorn would be cheaper?
dose anyone here live in new zealand and know where to get plain old dried cracked corn and or could i just use frozen corn from the supermarket that i could dry out in the oven?
cheers for any help............ MK

cool i found some kibbled maize. The question i now have is, is kibbled maize maize or corn (im thinking its maize) which is a direct relative of corn but not 100% the same. dose it matter, would it still work the same?

Re: corn in new zealand
"is kibbled maize maize or corn (im thinking its maize)"

"do you use rolled barley in ujssm?"

Try std UJSSM first, then try 50:50 with barley - suck it and see - your taste buds are the best guide!beefbandit wrote:cool. will get sum tomorrow. if you were to put barley in to, would you do half half barley an kibble or add extra barley? as a starter. ill probably end up experimenting with diff weights etc anyway.

$7.50 per 2l/3kg of Mollases at RD1, which is about as cheap as you get untill you buy a 44 gal drum from Wrightsons.stinkypete wrote:hey bandit what are the prices like for a 20 kg sack of cracked corn , or kibbled maize ? i pay around $17 for the corn and around the same for a 25 litre mollasses over here in aus , just currious as im an ex pat cheers

Re: corn in new zealand
I put a batch of UJSSM togther; cracked maize from farmlands was cheap but I had to buy a lot so I left that. As I felt that all I would want to do to start was the 8 or less brews that the recipe says you can get off one load of corn before I tried something completely different I bought mine from the petshop where they keep it as chicken food. Twice the price but probably still an economy for me. Try the petshop.
(the brew's sitting festering while i make my still the hard way. Heaven knows what it'll end up like.)

Falloons has some of the best prices i've ever seen, and you can buy smaller bag of different grains, rolled and unrolled; ostensibly as chicken food, but perfect for brewing

Good price for 20kg bags not sure but I'd imagine if you can't pick up postage will get pricey

Re: corn in new zealand
I finaly got hold of some . I got a 10kg bag of cracked maize for $25 from CRT should do me fine for a few brews. Farmlands didn't have any in stock or even seem the slightest bit interested in tracking some down for me .
