joining 1" pipe to make 2"
where i live its very difficult/expensive to get hold of copper pipe over 1".
is it completely infeasible to cut the pipe lengthways and join 2 lengths to make a wider diameter tube?
practically i can this being difficult, im not sure a butt joint would be very strong, and if you rivet you loose diameter in the tube. but has anyone tried this?

cutting and joining 1" sounds like hard work
maybe roll up some sheet if you can find it in copper long enough ? (thats sounds like hard work as well)

being new to the hobby i had plenty of copper steating around and my buddy was going to get into with me. wedid what you are talking about to the liebig just to try it . i wanted a lil more space around the 1/2 pipe so we used 3/4 pipe cut it with a stright line then tried to solder it together with a butt joint turn out ok. but after ranning he water though it it was leaking it was very hard to get it to stop after i fixed one another part would leak . so i took a hammer to it and throw it in my pond . that was just experence

Do you not have a scrap merchant where you live?
Take in scrap and give you cash? These places are a gold mine of copper and stuff. I got all the copper I needed for my Bokakob slant plate still for £35.00 and a keg for nothing.
I also went back looking for a pump and was given that too... this was all after I had told the guy what I wanted the first lot of copper for. I did promise him a bottle of "whisky" for his trouble.
I certainly won't be reneging on my promise, that's for sure.

copper doesnt lay about in scrap yards, it gets sold, quick smart! ive been after an old immersion boiler, but they are worth a good price just by themselves.
the trade has also suffered recently due to government legislation because so much lead and copper was being stolen.

I've split 2" copper L pipe to build a cap. It can be done. All you need is a acetyleen torch to braze it back together.watermelon wrote:where i live its very difficult/expensive to get hold of copper pipe over 1".

If you trying to build an adapter for a 2" easy flange to a 1" riser then it isn't that difficult.

I'm talking about "scrap merchants" not scrap yards. The places that the "scrap yards" will take "their scrap" to.watermelon wrote:copper doesnt lay about in scrap yards, it gets sold, quick smart! ive been after an old immersion boiler, but they are worth a good price just by themselves.

I did it but not with soft solder , when I tried to get the other side togethert the joint would break had to use hard silver solder. I also tried to make a smaller pipe out of 3" and that didn't work the thickness of 3" was very hard to bend. i think you would be better rolling a sheet of copper.. ps i only did it with a short piece about 1" long
