Greetings!
After several years of wine, cider, and beer making, I have decided to move another step (or down depending on who's talking!) up the ladder. Been lurking here for a couple of months, and reading quite a bit on your very informative forum as well as reading all I can on the Home Distillation site.
In the process of clabbering together a still that, hopefully, without packing get the results of a pot still, and by adding packing and a couple of additional feet, get a nice clean spirit as well.
Enjoy reading and doing my own research, but when I ask a dumb newblet question, please point me in the proper direction !
BTW ... handle is not about the former PM of England, but I will hoist a wee dram to the first person who knows the reference!
Looking forward to my first run of wash!

Welcome Jack
We can share the women, we can share the wine.
We can share what we got of yours cause we done shared all of mine.
Keep on rollin, just a mile to go;
Keep on rollin my old buddy, you're movin much too slow.
I just jumped the watchman, right outside the fence.
Took his rings, four bucks in change, aint that heaven sent?
Hurts my ears to listen, shannon, burns my eyes to see;
Cut down a man in cold blood, shannon, might as well been me.

Welcome to HD Jack Straw, I noticed you were talking about packing in a pot still column. That will not do a lot for you unless you have forced reflux going on on top of the packing. You can find a ton of info here on the subject. Good luck to ya and crank up some Garcia!

I was fortunate enough (translation - I'm old) to see almost every combination of, IMNSHO, "The World's Greatest Band". Never got to see Tom Constanten on tour, but saw every other keyboardist combination several times.

Re: Newblet's 1st post
I am working on a 2" tube somewhere between 24-36" high with an internal condenser near the top. I figure if I pack the tube with copper mesh it should reflux, but with the packing out, should act more like a pot still. Just need to figure out how to control the water flow in and out of the condenser. Not too good at illustrating, but if I have done my homework, this, theoretically should work?!?Richard7 wrote:Welcome to HD Jack Straw, I noticed you were talking about packing in a pot still column. If you got a condenser coil dripping onto the packing yea it would work. I though you were talking about packing a plain pot still column. For some reason a lot of that has been going on lately. And your right, take out the packing and turn off the reflux condenser for pot still mode. Best of luck to ya
