continuous still design from parent site

Post by Andyfink »

Hi guys, sitting here board I was reading through the parent site looking through the still and I was checking out the continuous still, I know there is no practical need for it. But if you remove the heads at the top of the still and you have another offset head lower to catch the hearts. and the tails out of the boiler. Would something like this theoretically work?

I can't see it working. Since its continuous the lighter fractions have to constantly be passing the "hearts" vapour take off. Some might but some is going to go into the hearts if not most. Continous stills are used for stripping because they produce a smeared product by nature. I don't see how you could stack a continous run still to make a lower hearts take off effective. I can see with a high enough column or enough plates and proper heat control that most if not all tails could be elimanted but i don't think there is anyway of effectively eliminating the heads. The hangover i get from commerically made booze produced with continous run stills confirms that theory for me.
