Anyone want to send me some... mouthwash?

Little or nothing to do with distillation.

Anyone want to send me some... mouthwash?

Post by AirIcarus »

Back in Afghanistan for another long stretch and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a simple brew.

I was considering getting some sugar and cranberry juice from the chow hall and ordering Turbo Yeast and an airlock. What else am I missing?

Suggestions, criticism (this is my fifth time out, so yes I know it's illegal), and other comments all welcomed.

So are you after a wine or do you have the ability to distill?

The still would have to be simple (Mr Distiller, Air Still, EasyStill...). I figured I would start with a wine-wash and progress from there.

I know they are just excuses but... First time out, the FOBs were too small for it, second time was Iraq (Christian store anyone?), third time I made a few Italian friends, and the last time we had a designated brewer.

With enough sugar will the turbo still be nasty?

Yes, it will. Check out the tried and true recipe section here. Bakers yeast works fantastic, and shoot for no more than 14% ABV.

Thanks for the bakers yeast advice. After doing a little research on Turbo Yeast, I think I will go for something a little more palatable.

On a side note, it looks like my local home brew shop is willing to ship out an Air Still and label it as coffee maker.

Stilling in the Stan? I might have to change the name of the thread title.
