Believe it or not, this is a serious question...
Obviously distillers yeast, baker's yeast, turbo yeasts, wine yeasts, etc, are the ideal yeasts for what we do in this hobby. Way back when, wild yeasts were primarily depended upon to do the work of converting mash sugars to alcohol. My girlfriend and I were talking about how I make my spirits, and when I mentioned yeast, her mind immediately went to a different type of 'yeast.' More specifically, but as ambiguously as I can, so as not to get in any trouble with the Mods. . . a type of yeast that is commonly associated with certain female 'infections.'
Would that be considered a wild yeast? and if so, is it possible, in any way, that it could 'infect' a mash that was using wild yeast to ferment? Does that type of yeast work in the same way as our mash yeasts? I guess more pointedly, in the sense that in a mash environment, it would try to convert to alcohol?
I'm thinking it would be some nasty tasting brew if it did somehow get into a mash, but I'm wondering if I need to keep my mash buckets away from her when/if she's ever 'infected.'
Please forgive me, but this is a genuine question, and I am genuinely curious.
Thanks
Jeremy

Ugh.... Okay yeah she's not coming anywhere near my mash buckets when I'm working. I was so hoping the reply would be 'no, that type of yeast is a completely different organism, and there's no chance of that happening...'

I'm fairly confident id you keep your toys (still apparatus) separate from her toys, there won't be a problem. If you co-mingle well, you're just a freak!
I'm going to try a renewable grain based lifestyle. Beer and whiskey count don't they?

There was an article posted here a while back (I think by the king of hearts) about a brewery that used a wild yeast found on the beard of the head brewer. Cool article and supposedly a good beer. Like Tater said, yeast is yeast.

Makes me wonder who the first gross sob was that said, "hmmm, wonder what would happen if I put some of this in there..."

while most all yeast produce alcohol in some percent, some also produce toxins/pathogens..
yeast is a fungi and some fungi produce toxins to word off others.

Thanks for the replies guys! I really didn't mean to open Pandora's box with that question, but I'd never thought about it before my gf asked me.

Yes and no.
Candida albicans is the yeast responsible for infections of people
Saccharomyces cerevisiae is the yeast we use for brewing good hooch.
Some believe that consuming products containing, or made by our yeast can lead to a flare up of 'the other yeast' personally i would be happiest to live in a world 'where never the twain shall meet'.

Where has all the rum gone? . . .

In the article posted about "OPB" the woman states that she mixed her vagina yeast with brewers yeast. I'm guessing that she mixed it in proportions something like 99.99999% brewers yeast, the other 0.000001% pussy yeast.
An interesting idea, and to my mind preferable to a beer made from the yeast in some hipster's beard, but still pretty gross, and not likely to make drinkable beverage, even if you could isolate the yeast from the rest of the micro-beasties that bop around down there.
