cloudy!

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

What does it mean when your product is cloudy when it comes out of the condenser?

What are you running, what kind of still, when did it get cloudy...beginning or end? Need more information, but it could have puked.

Its a 2.5 gallon pot still with a thumper and a 24" libeg arm! All main plumbing is 1/2" copper! The pots are ss! It happens at the end , I only get about a quart of stuff out of her! So the last pint got cloudy! Yes I did a cleaning run as a matter of fact I did two water and vinegar runs followed by two sac runs! My wash was just a simple form meal and sugar wash! I think it might have got to hot and puked but not sure! The last jar is just s bit cloudy don't taste to bad but its cloudy

if it was at the end of the run then it could just be the fusel oils and as the ABV drops then they precipitate out...to test if that is the problem, add some product from the beginning of the run, as usually early distillate is higher ABV...if it clears up then it is fusel oils.

Why don't you run your still without the thumper...give her a try...you might get more product and learn to run it better.

I was thinking I might just put in my next run! Gonna make a new column so I can check the temp correctly! Right now all I have is in the pot and I don't pay that much attention to it! But I'll try what you said and letvya know!

Don't need a thermometer with a pot still...turn it on and run it until the top of the column starts to get hot to touch but no steam coming out the condenser, then turn on your water for the condenser and wait until you have something dripping out...once it is coming out in a stream, dial back the heat slowly until you have a nice stream about the diameter of a pencil lead..this is for a spirit run or single run..slow and low...if you want to do a stripping run, the run her as hard as you can...you are pushing flavour and reducing volume.

Well, I don't know for sure..... But the PH in the water might make a difference. Have you tested that? Or perhaps next time use some additives.
I have made plenty of beer, and I use gypsum a lot where I live and I have hard water (go figure) and I figured that out with Trial and Error . But that will differ with softened water or.... etc....
In my thinking, water and temperature (and your ability to maintian) from top to bottom will make a great difference in how this will run.
Remember I am a newbie myself so I hope this will help or at least make a difference, and by no means gospel by the experts on here..
Hope this helps or give you an experiment!
