how to tune down a propand gas bruner

I learned this years ago when modifying a charcoal smoker to run on gas.
My burner was too hot even at the lowest setting on the tank so I placed proper sized nails in every other hole in the center ring of the burner.
I found nails that fit tight and cut them off 1/4 long at an angle so they would start in the hole and drove them in with a hammer. DONE. More
nails can be added later.

There was an added feature that I didnt think about when doing this,but we all know a propane burner will only run so slow and then it flames out.
This modification allows more gas to be sent to the outer ring so it can be adjuted a bit lower before flameout occurs.

I try to use what I got on the place. Dont have to do it, just what worked for me at the time. Iv'e made a dozen runs with it, works like a champ.
