Mash mixing

If my fruit mash has a cap on it should I periodically stir it?

I'm answering from a wine-making perspective, so maybe a more senior distiller can properly answer this...

I push down the cap every so often to help the C02 be released and to have the ingredients in the cap to interact with the fluids and the yeast.

dont stir fruit must, just push the cap down ,there a bunch of flavor in the skins
as well as doing so helps keep the mold away.
a potato masher with a extended handle works.

A lot of wine making instructions say to push down the cap and stir once or twice a day, but they typically say that for the first two days. After that leave it alone. Usually what I do is stir twice a day for two days and then rack the liquid to a secondary and seal it up with an air lock.
