I am not real sure of WHERE this post belongs, So,Admin/Mod, If NOT suitable in here please advise and I will move it, OR, Feel free to do so yourselves....

Here I sit, trying to get my thoughts straight..I am a trifle fearful of going TOO far with this post so I will attempt to keep it "Real".

I just got off the ph from a local Home Brew shop, I had rung them to get the cost on obtaining a "basic" Operational Pot Still...
In a very pompous and arrogant tone of voice I was told "They are NOT made anymore", ,Realizing I had probably made a mistake asking for a complete unit I said, OH, Sorry says I, How about separate components.. the next thing i get told,in a haughty, I know better than you do voice was .. i can only sell you (a reflux) one @ $700 PLUS, ..It's THAT or nothing basically.. I swear by All I Hold Sacred, that i did not do or say anything to initiate the above, and I am at a loss to understand WHY this occurred.
I must admit that I then told him No Thanks ..... Honest,Truly, That's What I Said, You Believe Me Don't You..

Just as well He was my 2nd call otherwise I would have given up trying, (at least for the day ), I had rung his opposition about 5 min prior, not only got a MUCH better price, but they actually spoke in a pleasant, informative manner.. Guess where I will be going come purchase time, which by my reckoning should be 'round next Mon/Tue..
So, Till I get set up and running...

DB, If you build your own, (potstill) you can do it for just over 100 USD. The Samohon's Potstill plans is what I used. I have no more than most basic construction skills, had never soldered, and found it easy, and very fun to build. And, the guys at the plumming supply store are friendly. The Samohon still is a great producer too. You will not be sorry.

Not certain where you're from, but most homebrew shops (especially in America) have that attitude when it comes to distilling.

Hi, Thanks for the response, I am in Australia, The both stores I contacted promote & push their range of Stills, I am at a total loss to work out the ph attitude..

Mate. I would love to be able to build my own but unfortunately that is out of the question.

I live here in the mid west near a big city and when I made my first visit to a local brew shop they knew rite away I was a noob. I purchased some yeast, airlocks, and a proofer. Beleave it or not they was out of hydrometers and was excepting them in later that day so I was without that for the time being. The owner picked up rite away what it was that I was doing and began sale pitching a bunch of more products to me. All in all it was a great experience. Very easy going guy and very helpful in some aspects and a hell of a since of humor. Ive been back there a few times and now became somewhat friends, all ways tells me if theres something special im looking for let him know and he can more than most likely order it for me. Just goes to show some people have what it takes to keep costumers and some dont care.
