I know a few members are doing stripping runs in 55 gallon SS drums, then taking their low wines and doing a spirit run in keg or some other smaller boiler. That sounds really cool; I really like the time saving idea of being able to strip that much wash at once (and who doesn't like the idea of fermenting ~40 gallons of mash at once?!)
Anyway, has anyone ever made a pot still head to use on boilers of such different sizes? I know it wouldn't be hard to physically attach the still head to either with 2" attachments, gaskets, triclamps, etc. Also as long as the condenser on the pot still could knock down a stripping run going that fast, it should work. Right?
I'm currently building a 3" pot still with a Leidbeg condenser that will be ~4' long, have 1/2 pipe on the inside and 3/4" on the outside. Will that knock down a fast stripping run of 40 gallons of mash? Is 3" to 1/2" to much of a reduction? Am I crazy or would this be awesome?
1 still head, two different boilers?
