Using Bicycle Tire Inner Tube to Seal Pipe

I currently have a 2 inch copper tower and was told I could just use a piece of old bicycle inner tube to seal my tower with my lyne arm. I know flour paste is sort of the standard but this is so much cleaner and I just need to know if its safe.
