Looks like whiskey taste like whiskey must be...

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

Looks like whiskey taste like whiskey must be...

Post by Little21 »

After many questions and alot of reading my first sweetfeed mash finished fermenting Saturday I siphoned off and let sit till today cranked up the propane burner and put the keg on filled her up and after about 2 hours got a few drops then a stream! Threw out two shot glasses and have been collecting slowly ever since have a gallon jar and a quart jar so far still reading 110 started at 130. Will run down to around 60 then repeat the process haha  thanks to all you guys for helping me out!

BB it was my first run other than my cleaning runs on them I say back and put the fire to it. On my whiskey run I needed to find out what temp or setting on my propane burner to start off at. The second run "what was left of the wash I had it going in about 45 min it was about 45 degrees here today as well. Glad I took the time to read on some stuff Because if I hadn't I woulda been freaking out when my liebig started huffing haha thanks again y'all!

Must be a rumskey, or fuax wiskee. But not a "whiskey" or "whisky" nor borboun. Real whiskey comes from cooked grains.

But either way congrats on getting your noodle wet . Once you go cooked AG its hard to drink that sweefeed swill (j.k. i'll take three fingers neat). I never tried the sweetfeed recipe, i'll have to give it a try just for shits n giggles. After a few genarations of ujssm (same as sweetfeed w/o the other grains and mollases added) I decided to try nchooch's carolina borboun, and after tasting the difference I never looked back. I got full conversion on my first attempt, its not as hard as some people make it out to be. I'm sure once you try it you'll agree, and save the sugar n mollases for your rums. Again, congrats on your first spirit run, enjoy and saftey first.

The cinnomon sounds tasty. For your first rum checkout pugirum in the tried and true. I found it a little dificult finding that amount of mollases so I switched it up a bit. I use 6lbs of dark brown sugar and 2 jars of grandmas mollases, 5 teaspoon of dap, 1/2 teaspoon epsom salt, 1 crushed multivitamin, top off to 5 gallons. Makes a nice light rum. Enjoy.

Lucky you. I can only get it online, and I try not to order anything online for this hobby. Im lucky to have a brew shop down the road, thats were I get all my grains and nutrients.

Lol. Dont loose your job on somthing that only takes a few minutes to mix. I remember the excitment when I got started in the hobby.

My parrot and still mate app or the Moonshine app (both apps are android)are pretty handy. The moonshine app has more calculators but crashes alot on my SGSIII. Both apps were developed by two different HD members.
