My First Still....So I went Big!!!!

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

Makes it all worth it does'nt it? It really spoils ones self and opens your eyes to how bad some of the commercail stuff really is! The AG is a fun process in it's own, a bit temperamental stillin, out of 5 runs I had 2 pukes. Hooch informed me the barley likes to foam up! Have fun and report results on your AG.

Every week since I started Oaking my UJSSM, I have
Been having a few mix drinks after dinner, man it's
Just getting better and better. I am starting to think
I might need to sell my Jack Daniels stock!!! I'm
Not going to be buying it any more;) I think after time
This hobbie of mine is going to save me lots of money and I
Like the sound of that. My stuff is starting to taste like
A mix of knob creek with a hint of rum!!!! I drink it with
Coke Zero in a rocks glass, the coke zero gives it a hint of cinnamon flavor, dame good
Stuff... Well cheers everyone, Oh and to all the new people
To this forum, a little advice from Prochargedharley, read read read and ask lots of stupid questions
And dont get mad if someone disagrees with you everyone has an opinion ,have fun, and be safe!!!!, and did I say be "safe"..:)

:shh: Don't tell every one how great it is... The liquor stores will go out of business! I sure do enjoy the quality of the home made stuff. Kinda like finding out you can make better stakes than you can get at a restaurant, when you take the time to make your own charcoal and follow a good recipe! Very rewarding.
+1 on keep it safe!
By the way I am drinking beer tonight...... Trying to pass a kidney stone  .... Beer #6 going down now, and pray I pass this stone tonight. Going on two weeks now and I am tiered of it  . This is my first one and it sure does suck!
I want to hear about your spirit run with your flute when you do it. Stuff like how fast it will run, and the proof it comes out at. I like using the offset still head like yours, but I think I need to step up to 3" or 4" instead of 2". Every one have a great night!

Oh man sorry about the stone!!!!! I will be doing a spirit run
In a week or two, I have 6 gallons of heads and tails all saved
Up!! The last time I ran it, I got 94% ABV, but my heads and tails
Got a little to diluted;( it was only 36% so this time I'm going to
Run it at the 40%. We will see what I can get!!!

Xfab

I am very happy with my set up!!! It's got it's set backs, size
Weight, price but it was a great experience, buying the parts
Building it, and letting everyone see my progress, very fun.
I get a great product out of this still. My UJSSM is going on one
Month on heavy charred white oak, and is a fine spirit!!!

Have fun!! Do a lot of reading on here and be safe!!!!

This is in icedible, it is actually a peice of art (functional art) LOL. If you don't mind me asking, what do you think the total cost was? And now that it's finished, are you thinking about posting detailed plans to build a "replica"? This is one of my favorite designs so far so just wondering. Great job on it!!!

wow, just read the entire thread. Great read and a great still.
I will be modding my Offset with the external coil on the condenser. My condenser is a wee bit small so this should boost it up just fine.
Are you running your cooling thru the inner or outer coil first.

Thanks for a great read, your enthusiasm is inspiring.

.

With a lamp shade, a light bulb, about 10 feet of electric cord, and a plug end, you could just store that "End Table and Lamp" between the Lazy-Boys right in the living room. Them pesky Revenuers and nosey visitors would walk clean past it and never know you had a still! errrr, ......maybe the parrot would give it away though.

Hey ProChargedHarley let me say i love the still and how versatile it is, im thinking of going with something similar after reading through your posts.

My question is i saw you got your sight glasses at Pex Supply but i cant find anything like that on the website would you happen to still have the item number i know its been a while but i wouldn't mind a point in the right direction.

Thanks,
B

awesome thank you so much.

So does it come with the glass or do you have to order that separately, its kind of hard to tell with the picture? and im guessing you cut out the rounded notches to fit the pipe?

thanks,
B
