wacabi1, do you think a shop vac would work too? One could easily attatch that to the clean out with a reducer pretty easily and not have to use so much duck tape. Just a thought, I think this is a great idea and I want to make one. I have all the parts but I still in the basement. It may make the house hell a humid.

The shop vac would work for sure, but it would be louder than HELL, and I'm not sure what the duty cycle is on that motor. And the humidity, your very right on being very humid. Is there a way you can vent it out with a dryer vent or something?

I'm with Whiskey on this one, (and a little sumin I call "Sun Shine Tea" !!!), I think a shop vac would work, but damn their loud... Go to Walmart man, look around where they keep fans. Mine was a little desk type office fan, with a stainless steel lookin shroud. It was called a 4" fan. But the blades aren't actually 4", more like 3 1/2. They fit perfect inside a cleanout T... And fer $6 , ya caint beat it. A little duck tape and yer in buisness...

+1 on the small fan. A shop vac would probably blow the water right out the top of the cooler!

Got my 55 Gallon plastic barrel today. The swamp cooler system will be done tomorrow. Just in time for my cleaning run for the new tower.

4 inch pipe with clean out filled with swampcooler pad rolled into pipe. Bathroom fan at 50cfm pushing air and a prayer that it works Great!

i have been readying and wondering about several ideas for the cooling of water that is used for cooling... cooling cooling water you could say. so my question is, has anyone considered what they are actually saving by keeping one batch of water and cooling it? i used to keep a barrel of water around, but i had to change it often enough that it became a hassel. now i just trickle water through, very slow like, adding as much energy into it as possible before it is tossed, and then i let it drip into my yard to water things. the pressure for the city allows no pump, and there is no cooling, so no fan. i know its small, but the energy used for the fan and pump is not neglect able, and if it is, certainly the water used for your yard is also. its nice to save water and all.. but... just my two cents.
