Storing barrels?

Post by bht9665 »

I have two barrels that I have filled with whiskey. What should I do with the barrels when my likker is finished. I have read that you should fill 1/4 of the barrel with water and the other person said take the bung and spigot out and let it air out. Is there some kind of cleaner to put in the barrel. I would like to know the whole process. If someone feels like sharing any knowledge feel free.

If ya take the bung and spigot out and let it air it's gonna dry out, the bands will fall off, and then ya got a mess tryin to get it to reseal. If ya don't have any likker to put back in it then just fill it up with water.

After soaking and aging use the solena method to age. See link below
