My stilling bud is gone.

Post by Richard7 »

I had a dog named Hurricane that was with me every step back and forth to my barn as I made my brew. He was sick when I got home today. I took him to the vet and told them to do what they could do.
My wife took off work and we went to check on him at the vet. He seemed to be doing better at the time but about a hour and a half later he died..... :(

I'm gonna miss that dog.

Indeed. That's the worst part. They are part of your family, but their time is short and they are gone way too quickly. Hell, I miss my dog more than some other family members that have passed away.

My sincere condolences. It sucks.

sry for ur lost. i had to give away my two dogs after 6 years with the oldest. man did that hurt.. if it makes u feel better i would rather have my dogs with me the most of my family . beside my kid. i like dogs better then people, they may shit on ur rug but they dont bitch about u not picking it up till morning .... and when i get home they did what i want them to do for the day. unlike my old lady.

I am truly sorry about your loss. I think dogs were put here to make us all better people.

I dread the day I loose my beagle. We've been tracking together for 13 years, I don't know how I will find my way without her.

My sincerest condolences, Richard7... Pets do, in fact, become very close family members... Their loss is no less significant than any other friend or family member...

I've had to put down two pets that were family and really they were people with fur and four legs. There isn't a worse feeling you can have.

My condolences and I hope you always have happy memories of Hurricane.

I feel your pain.
even my own kids have grown and nearly forgotten me, but a dogs love is unconditional.
I have lost a few dogs and it really makes it difficult to even think about getting a new cute little puppy...
thanks for posting your story, i can almost imagine him tagging along nearly under foot out to the barn.
i always found good therapy, in making and carving a grave marker where we could visit,
and also maybe brew up a special batch of likker and name it in memory. just a thought. and if you do take a shot for me.

hang in there

I feel for you man. I know its hard to lose someone that hero worships you. When I lost Bad Dog Danger, I swore I could never put myself through it again. But one day my wife came home with a rent a dog. It belonged to my sons math teacher. Pretty soon we were dog sitting every other month. Finally, she asked us to take him permanently. So, here we go again.

Sorry for your loss Richard7, I know how you feel, I've had a couple of old dogs that I loved more than a lot of people I know. Hard to beat the kind of friend a good old dog can become.

Seven years ago my fishing buddy died. I took a year to grieve before getting a new puppy. I looked and passed on many dogs before meeting the child I have now. A female cocker spaniel. She picked me when I was there to look at the male puppies. I used to have her puppy picture as my avatar.
Turns out she is the smartest damn dog I have ever known. Way past a pleaser or problem solving dog, she is down right manipulative and will go to great lengths to get her way. She seems to understand everything said and we sometimes spell to keep a secret. She hid the other day when my girlfriend spelled BATH. We may have to start passing notes. She knows how to turn on the charm when necessary and has a fan club. The mail man will park his truck to come into the yard and play with her. The garbage man plays with her too. Everywhere I go, she goes. I am known as “Bella’s Dad” at the hardware store, welding supply and parts store. I used to have a name. They are more than just family. We belong to them.

Condolences Richard7! A dogs love is like a childs when theyre still young enough to think youre the greatest! Very rough thing to go through.
In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.

Living alone in a house so empty that footsteps echoed like those in an empty basketball court (what was left after a vindictive ex-wife cleaned it out ) I hand made a plaque and hung it on the wall :
"A man needs a good horse , a good dog , and a good woman to be happy ."
Don't remember who wrote that ; Louis Lamour , maybe . Anyway , a gal I was seeing on a more than casual basis read the plaque . I had a fine palomino quarter horse stallion that would walk through fire for me . She walked in one day with a puppy
and said ,"the trilogy on the plaque is complete if you want it to be so ."
That was nearly 30 years ago . The stallion went the way all old horses do . The puppy matured and enjoyed a good life on the farm until she had lived out her years .
The woman ; well , after we lost the first dog she went out and got us another puppy . When I get off here I'll be sharing the bed with both of them . Pets are family when you open your heart enough to allow it to be so .
If you ain't the lead dog in the team , the scenery never changes . Ga Flatwoods made my avatar and I want to thank him for that .
Don't drink water , fish fornicate in it .
