Can we discover WHO closes each closed topic?
I suspect that sometimes, the closer is one who tries to impose his OWN opinion, fails, and then takes his bat home out of spite.
See "Computer Controlled Distillation"........ and HOPE it wasn't rad who closed the topic.....

Maybe it's a generational thing or just a difference in upbringing, but posts like this really get under my skin. The creators and founders of this forum had a clear set of guidelines and principles in mind that they have stuck to from the beginning and they do not deviate from this. The first being 'Safety'! So they and the moderators are not going to permit topics discussing the best way to burn your house down and or blow yourself up, so that others looking for knowledge may give it a try as well.
Other themes such as the use of plastics and Turbos follow that same path. But some think it is their 'right' to come on here and talk about whatever they want, whenever they want, for as long as they want. Guess what, It's not your sandbox! Go play somewhere else.

I closed it and I'll do it again if another topic starts heading in the same direction...
These forums are not a democracy and the management of them is not subject to debate... The forums are moderated and administered, freely, taking countless hours, by dedicated members who have the big picture in mind... Those members who don't understand the big picture are encouraged to learn what it is... And any member trying overly hard to sway members to buy into their beliefs and products isn't part of that big picture... Our membership is not an open flowing income stream for folks to profit from...
Anyone having a gripe over the closing the topic in questions is more than welcome to contact me via PM if they need it drawn out for them... Most topics that start in that direction generally do get closed sooner or later... This one had gone on long enough and wasn't going to rebound into a worthwhile discussion... End of story...

Re: Can we discover WHO closes each closed topic?
First of all I am a Newb here and I would like to say Thank You Rad and all the other mentors that put so much of their time into this forum. Thanks for looking out for our safety most of all. When trying to learn anything new mistakes are easy to make. Since we are dealing with a highly volatile product, the safety of our homes and families is the most important part of learning. I have only been on here about a month now and in my many hours of reading both day and night do you know how many post's that I have read where a mentor has made a suggestion to someone only to have them argue their point and try to prove that they are a genius and know more than the mentor. Gentlemen I for one thank you for your input and thanks Rad for your gruff and upfront and to the point opinions.
Chlome as far as I am concerned and I hope there are many others here that are of the same opinion as mine, that even though your control system took a lot of intelligence to build and may have a place in this world this is not the place for commercialization. If you want to build a product and sell it, have the guts to do it in the commercial world as anyone else would. And as far as you coming to this thread and posting at all show's me what a disrespectful piece of shit you really are!!!!!!!

Re: Can we discover WHO closes each closed topic?
I've read the entire thread that was closed and found it very interesting and agree with the decision to lock it, since the thread was getting argumentative and going downhill. I see both sides of the discussion (before it turned into an argument) and am not taking sides. I do however have an issue with personal attacks, such as:
which are clearly against the rules ("2. Be polite and courteous.") of this forum.what a disrespectful piece of shit you really are!!!!!!!

I have taken part in Forums in subject matter that interest me since the old Bulletin Board days in the '70's. Home Distiller is one of the top three I have taken part in; all three have one thing in common.... Good moderators. As someone mentioned, these moderators spend countless hours keeping the forum on track and are always subject to someone getting pissed at them. A good moderator has the good of the forum as foremost in their efforts. We need to remember that when we get called down by a moderator that it's usually not personal and their motivation is keeping the forum running in the matter most of us want. Join a non-moderated forum and all you will see is flame wars, off subject posts, spam, petty pissing contests and ill will. We are lucky to have our moderators.

Forum management (mods, admins and mentors) do a lot of work behind the scenes, including dealing with pointless bullshit from trouble makers, and keeping it all safe and generally on track.
And it is all done for the love of the hobby.
Just saying.

Be safe.
Be discreet.
And have fun.

I'm also appreciative of the mods. Ensures the board has a purpose, isn't overtaken with bots, etc. I also struggle though because I like freedom of information. I struggle with the censorship of ideas and resources at times, but I also understand. Not everyone on the internet is intelligent enough to not blow up their city block doing certain things. Ultimately, as stated previously, this isn't a democracy, so I will enjoy what I'm given and contribute within the boundaries of the vision as I can.

Interesting: intelligent conversation is forbidden because ignoramuses might be listening.Clearwater wrote:I struggle with the censorship of ideas and resources at times, but I also understand. Not everyone on the internet is intelligent enough to not blow up their city block doing certain things.

LOL, like I said, I struggle with it. It's just about accountability and doing what they think is right. Not like they're keeping us hostage here and not letting us explore other sources for data.Maritimer wrote: Interesting: intelligent conversation is forbidden because ignoramuses might be listening.
