Hard cider run
My boss gave me 2.5 gallons of hard cider. He said its good but but a bit strong for him. I told him I'd take it. I have a pot still planning on running it tomorrow . The question I have is since I only have 2.5 gallons, I was thinking on putting 3/4 of a gallon of 120ish UJSSM in with it to give me more end product. What do u all think???? Risk it or not?

Re: Hard cider run
No but i like brandy a bit n this would be about the same thing. I will try it before i run it though. The only reason i wanna run it is for a trial. A friend if mine has a small press and we wanna run some apples this fall
Re: Hard cider run
It didn't work out too well. The hard cider started to turn and had a slight vinegar taste. This carried over into the distillate.....not good! I wasnt even gonna try but i did it any way. I no better for next time!!
Re: Hard cider run
I have 5 gallons of hard cider that has a real tart apple flavor (makes you pucker when you take a drink like a tart apple). I also have 5 gallons of apple wine that I was thinking about combining and then running for a brandy.. I know the wine is a dry wine.. would it be wise to just run the wine and dump the cider? I guess I could reflux the cider for a clear..
What are your thoughts OP?

Well im pretty new to this sport as well. But just based on what i just did. If you think the cider has started to turn i wouldnt mix the 2. The stuff i just did left a real bad after taste. The proof was ok130 ish outa my pot still. It just had the carry over flavor of a vinegar.....wasnt good. I would think the safe way would be to do two seperate runs. If they r both good try mixing them later. If the wine is fine n the cider turns out bad at least ya have something to start fires withSwifty wrote:I have 5 gallons of hard cider that has a real tart apple flavor (makes you pucker when you take a drink like a tart apple). Re: Hard cider run
In deep southwest england cider is the drink of choice and also it is soooo sour it is unreal well most of the farm scrumpy is the shop brought stuff is a load of rubbish but i have made 160L of cider and selling 120L of it and drinking 40L of it in bottles

Back her on the eastern seaboard we have orchards all over. Cider is readily available even right now. Just plain old cider is very good.... not usually sour round here ....sweet in fact. you should ferment some next time so u can run some.
