fusel oils and tails?

Post by shiner2011 »

im preatty new to distilling, ive distilled 5 20l pots so far... but im having trouble blending to get the flavor i want. i have read alot about blending the tails with the hearts because the fusel oils hold alot of the flavors im lookin for but i have also read that fusel oils will hurt you... ive read so many things that i am now confused...

so i am running a simple corn, corn malt, sugar and water recipie with no added yeast just straight wild yeast, ive had very good ferments but like i said im looking for more of a corn flavor and i havnt been getting that but i have also been throwing away all my tails so do yall recommend me throw some of my tails in with my hearts to get more of a corn flavor?

how many ml per gallon would yall suggest me throwing out on a corn ,sugar and malt recipie to get all of the foreshots out... i think this may be where im losing some of the flavors im looking for because im throwing all of the heads away...
i use a stainless pot still and i tend to throw out about 400ml for 20 l of wash!
does this sound about right or am i throwing too much out?
thanks
