WHAT TO DO WITH THE SPENT GRAINS or THE DRUNK WORM STORY
I had a problem back in the winter about where to put the stuff that comes out of my fermenting buckets. First I slung it out into the yard for the birds and squrills but the wouldnt have nothing to do with it. It also moulded and killed the grass.
Then I started putting it into the big ol pile of leaves that we save for the garden. I scrape a hole in the leaf pile, pour it in and cover it up. I didnt want folks to walk up on it and put 2 and 2 togeather, aha a still.
Well let me tell you, I have the largest worm bed in the county. Who would have thunked that drunk worms would be haveing sex out there and multiplying like that but they are hundreds and hundreds of worms out there. These are big ol huskey looking things lookin like baby snakes or something.
They are all alcoholics and wait for me to come down with a bucket of spent corn and yeast, so I caught me some of then with a shovel and went on down to the creek bank and in less than 15 minutes had 11 red breast robins trying to get at the worm can and fighting one another for the chance to snatch one of them drunk worms. They made so much racket that the fish left the scene and so I come on home without supper.
Next day, I went back out there with a bucket of spent stuff and was planning to pour it into the hole i dug for the fishing worms, well, they must have heard me coming because them worms were perched up there like stadium seating and dived into the slop as I poured it. The slop pile began to vibrate so I covered it up and left.
What you guys do with all the spend ferments?
thats my story and Im sticking to it

Pigs and chickens love the stuff. They might need a 12 step program later.

It was common in the 1800's for flour mills to add a distillery as a way to use left over grist from milling flour. The distilliers then started feed lots as a way to use up the spent grains from distilling. Still today spent grains are sold for feed.

Re: WHAT TO DO WITH THE SPENT GRAINS or THE DRUNK WORM STORY
I got a BOB (Big O'le Bear) wandering around the woods around my house. I've been dumping everything out on the wood line hoping he'll come in and get drunk. Then I can 1. try and fight him like Davey Crocket or 2. (the more realistic option) make a rug outta him come Bear Season.
Love the worm story, the little lady makes a mean stuffed trout dinner and I've been meaning to build a compost bin.

I throw mine in the pond. The catfish especially love the ujssm corn! They come every time I walk up in the evening hoping to get drunk as a fish again!

If I sparge, then I use this recipe. Your dog will love it. Wouldn't do it if you fermented on the grain. I dry them in the dehydrater. Trust me you have to make this. I make a ton and give to friends with dogs.
Original recipe:
4 cups spent grain
2 cups flour
1 cup peanut butter (all natural)
2 eggs
Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Press down into a dense layer on a large cookie sheet. Score almost all the way through into the shapes you want. Bake for about half an hour at 350 F to solidify them. Loosen them from the sheet, break the biscuits apart and return them, loosely spread out on the cookie sheet, to the oven at 225 F for 3 to 4 hours (or until they are really dry) to prevent mold growth. Store in an airtight container to keep them dry and mold-free. I use the dehydrater rather tHan oven

There's quite a few fermented worms in apple brandy. 'bout the only yeast nutrient I ever used.

I'm going to try to give this big ole pile of spent corn a try at some carp fishing. Good reason to put away some of this white stuff and a cigar in the process.
