Re: Cornflakes whiskey
Would that explain the flavour?
Do you think it's mixed in he slurry when the make it or post processed?

Re: Cornflakes whiskey
The corn grits are cooked in steam pressure cookers, with Kellogg’s unique malt flavour, at temperatures exceeding 100C. This cooking process lasts for an hour and softens the hard grits. The hot grits are transported from the cookers to large driers via the complicated network of pipes that runs through the factory. The grits spend several hours in the hot-air driers in order to reduce their moisture content.
The corn grits are milled using two large rollers, which squeeze the grits flat. One of the rollers rotates slightly faster than the other and exerts 40 tonnes of pressure on the grits.
This elongates the flakes. The flakes are then tumble toasted for 30 seconds in huge cylindrical ovens. The air in the ovens is heated by 600C gas flames and the flakes are tossed around in a rotating drum. The drum is angled so that the flakes whirl around and pass through it quite quickly, and stops them spending too long in the fierce heat.
The flakes are then sprayed with vitamins and minerals to make them as nutritious as possible. We now have Corn Flakes.

Re: Cornflakes whiskey
Guys I got impatient and decided to do a batch today.
I boiled my cornflake goop for 30 min at 160f after I emptied the pot I found it had caked and burnt on the bottom
Is this going to be a problem?

Re: Cornflakes whiskey
i usually let it sti and once it slows down or stops i run it usually around .97 to 1.005 just depends on unfermentubles and sugar ability as well as if the yeast has fermented to its maximum nutrients etc so could just have been plenty of sugar and the yeast cant make the alcohol go any higher i couldnt know that for sure though without your OGcrazyk78 wrote:Usually my sugar all ran gets to .97 ish

Re: Cornflakes whiskey
But if the home brand is made out of sweet corn too, it don't matter. Malt taste doesn't reallyn shine thru ...

Re: Cornflakes whiskey
Kicked this off a few days ago and it's going well. I used 1kg Corn flakes, 3.5kgs white sugar, 140gms tomato purée and a tsp of citric. Can't wait to put it through the still and get another generation going
Re: Cornflakes whiskey
I don't understand the addition of tomato purée...you are going to completely ruin any corn flavour that you were attempting to get...?Beerbrewer wrote:Kicked this off a few days ago and it's going well. Re: Cornflakes whiskey
Yeah, tomato paste is not needed in this recipe!
No problem. Distill it, try it, use the backset to start up gen II without tomato paste.

For neutrals it might be fine, for flavour ... maybe not.

Re: Cornflakes whiskey
Guys I made my recipe as I noted earlier and with the 1.5kg cornflakes I used a total of 25lwater and the whole mix filled my 30l fermenter.
I racked it off today and could only get 17l of liquid out...the rests of the liquid and wort is at the 10l line.
So my question is, can I squeeze more liquid out somehow?

Re: Cornflakes whiskey
If you can distill very slowly on gas or with a water jacketed boiler, there is no need to take the liquid of the grain. Just distill all.

Re: Cornflakes whiskey
Transferred mine today, what a mess, when transferring got a strong smell of sick but once in the demijohns I gave it another sniff and it's not there any more Lost about 5ltrs due to the corn. I'll let it sit a week and then distil it. May be back onto the birdwatchers until I can think of a way to transfer without spilling it all over the place!
Re: Cornflakes whiskey
