thick pyrex for sight glasses? where it go?

Post by condensificator »

need some more thick pyrex (5.5mm, same as i got from GM) for my new project. any ideas where to get some? net searches have either been sending me to crazy scientific stuff, or cookware, but i can't find a place to buy small quantities of sheet...anyone?

i got my first bit from glassman, but for some reason, i can't PM him, and i don't want to bug him for more since he hooked me up last time.

thanks.

hey SC...i got your pm, but mine aren't going out. i appreciate the offer for what you have, but i would need a bunch more. it's for my new bubbler project, and i'll prolly need to cut 9 or 10 2-1/2" discs. i think i figgered out a better way, where i won't have to cut anything and it will be way, way better.

still looking for a large plate of 5-6mm boro/pyrex glass...be happy to split some up with someone.

Possibly a silly idea, but;
not long ago I threw out one of those circular 'glass' plates that go round and round on a microwave...

LOTS of them must get thrown out.

Would that be the kind of glass you are looking for???

if i had some lapidary type tools, that would work. but for what i need, it needs to be dead flat to seal up, at least on one side.

good idea, though.

man they have some nice stuff but unless i read it wrong to get the flat sight glass glass you have to buy 100 pieces... damn.. 700.00 worth of sight glass material is allot. I do like this place though. Hell it gave me all kinds of ideas.

I got my sight glass off the shelf from these folks:

http://www.ibhs.co.uk/Boiler-Back-End-S ... s/c-1-105/

There is probably a company like this in your area, this one has just about every boiler spare you could ever want.

I imported keg connectors and triclamps from USA to UK easily enough, I am sure they would send you some sight glass if you asked. Shipping would not be that expensive. :)

i see this is an old thread but if you ever need to buy pyrex (borosilicate glass) rod or tube id recommend ABR Imagery (dichroicimagery.com) they carry all types of glass and glassblowing tools and are a great bunch of folks as well. just thought id mention it since this thread came up in a search.
