buying rye in New Zealand

Ive searched and searched and am having real trouble on where to buy rye from here in New Zealand Ive found barley corn but no rye can some one please help me out Many Thanks Paul

In Canada and US "winter rye" can be bought from a feedstore.

Try asking for cereal rye, ryecorn or ryegrain in a feedstore. It is a cereal grain which looks like barley - but smaller. Check that it has no preservatives/fungicides if you find it as seedstock.

Ryegrass looks like lawn grass seed and is NOT what you want. Here's a good primer on the difference:

As a dairy farmer i know all about crops and rye grass But am having real problem finding rye my 2 main goals are corn and rye whiskey
corn is not a problem as i grow 10 hec a year anyway but bloody rye,

Ooops! I guess you didn't need that primer. :oops: (Many do. :thumbup: )

Cereal rye is not available in feedstores in NZ? There's always the LHBS if you don't mind their prices.

thanks for the replys Sounds like my local binn inn guy ran get me some rye (not sure of the price) ill find out when i pay for it.

If you tube was at me then NO i dont do you tube or red tube or any sort of tube thingies

fair enough, theres a young guy working on a dairy farm who makes his own grog, likes blowing stuff up, he's put it on youtube. How's calving at the moment?

no not me half way threw calving only 200 togo Im on count down as this is my last season Selling my herd time for a change
you dont know where to get rye from do you?

Hauraki might be able to help out. If they cant help I don't think any one NZ could. I looked Rye up on Wikipedia and it seems to be a northern thing.

What's the plans after selling herd? (apart from having a well deserved holiday)

affter selling up really dont know first time in 22 years i have know idea of whats round the corner worked every day sine leaving school in the 4th form so its going to be a massive change.

dry stock farming? my dad makes a good income buying and selling small dry stock units, buys real rough places does them up and flicks them. Otherwise forestry is always looking for good workers.

Jase i plan to have a break for about 4 months doing Nothing I had 6 days off last season and this season looks no better for me so im not even going to look for a job Planing a trip back to Samoa R n R
